تُوفي القاضي الأمريكي الشهير فرانك كابريو الرئيس السابق للمحكمة البلدية لمدينة بروفيدنس بولاية رود آيلاند، والمعروف على نطاق عالمي بـ “القاضي الرحيم”، عن عمر ناهز 88 عامًا. انتشر خبر وفاته على نطاق واسع، حيث نعته عائلته ومحطات التلفزة التي كانت تعرض برنامجه الشهير
شغل كابريو منصب رئيس المحكمة البلدية لمدينة بروفيدنس (Chief Judge of the Providence Municipal Court) لعدة عقود. اشتهر بأسلوبه الفريد في الفصل في القضايا، خاصة مخالفات المرور والقضايا البلدية الصغيرة.
كما أصبح ظاهرة ثقافية وإعلامية بفضل برنامج “Caught in Providence” (أو “مضبوط في بروفيدنس”)، الذي كان يُبث على قنوات محلية وعالمية، بما في ذلك قناة “الحدث اليوم” العربية. عرض البرنامج لقطات حية من قاعة محكمته، showing تعامله الإنساني والشفاف مع المتقاضين.
اكتسب شهرته كابريو هذه التسمية بسبب أسلوبه القضائي الفريد القائم على التعاطف والإنسانية حيث كان يستمع لقصص الناس وظروفهم الصعبة (مشاكل مالية، أمراض، عائلية) باهتمام صادق و إسداء النصح و يعتبر قاعة المحكمة منصة لتوجيه النصح الدروس للحاضرين، وليس فقط مكانًا لإصدار الأحكامم واستبدال الغرامات بأعمال تطوعية و كثيرًا ما كان يلغي الغرامات المالية على المخالفين مقابل قيامهم بأعمال خيرية أو التبرع للجمعيات، أو مجرد الوعد بعدم تكرار المخالفة
وكانّه أسلوبه في العمل العدالة مع المرونة حيث يؤمن بأن تطبيق القانون يجب أن يأخذ في الاعتبار الظروف الإنسانية لكل حالة.
